Nicola McGuinness set up Rowan Beg Design Studios in 2016 after returning home from 14 years living in the States. Nicola is a self confessed home bird, having grown up in Connemara she moved on for a time but her heart remained in Ireland. When she got the opportunity to return home permanently she knew this was her chance to honour the untouched rugged beauty of home and start a design studio producing beautiful products that reflect her beloved Connemara.

Nothing can transport a person to a particular place or time like a scent, so with this in mind, Nicola created a line of candles based on her childhood memories of home. This line includes scents of the sea, the bog, wild heathers and roaring fires, freshly cut meadows and her Grandads sweet tobacco.

In 2018, Nicola launched two new candle lines. One inspired by history’s timeless classic women which she named the Audrey collection, and a concrete line for the Urbanites.

Nicola has individually created and hand blends each scent. She adds the wick, melts the wax and pours each and every candle. It is a completely handcrafted process.

The Pebble art is created using items foraged from the local landscape so everyone can own their own little piece of Connemara.

It is simple and honest, unique and quirky. Each piece tells its own story and is a real statement piece lending itself to all types of decorating styles.

All our pieces would look equally at home in a modern loft conversion or a country cottage.

When I am considering a new design I am always very careful to ensure it honours and reflects its surroundings. The Irish landscapes is my inspiration and is always in the forefront of my mind.

Working from her studio in Renvyle with views of the rugged landscape, including the Twelve Bens, the inspiration is endless and Nicola’s love of all things home has grown even stronger.
